Slowly and steadily, we are nearing the end of our unforgettable birding journey through Bhutan. In this penultimate chapter of Birds of Bhutan – Part VIII, I share photographs of the birds we encountered on our way from Gelephu to Tsirang, in the central part of the country.

With its gentle slopes, mild climate, and lush surroundings, Tsirang is a region blessed with remarkable biodiversity and is fondly known as the fruit basket of Bhutan.

I felt a tinge of sadness as we prepared to leave Gelephu, yet that feeling was balanced by the excitement of discovering a new destination—especially one with such a promising reputation. Before departing, we had one final birding session in Gelephu. It was during this last outing that we ticked off the final remaining hornbill of the Indian subcontinent—the Oriental Pied Hornbill. (Keeping aside the Narcondam Hornbill, which remains largely beyond the reach of most birders.)

And now, let us meet the birds featured in Birds of Bhutan – Part VIII.
