In the Birds of Bhutan – Part IV, we were headed towards one of my most favourite spots in the country—none other than the serene little town of Tingtibi, in the Zemgang district of central Bhutan. This region is truly a hidden gem for anyone exploring the rich diversity of the Birds of Bhutan.

I was longing to be back at the tranquil Mangde Chhu Riverside Camp, a perfect base for birding in central Bhutan. On our birding trip last season in search of the Birds of Bhutan, we came to this place and were mesmerised by the sights and sounds of the location. In this post on Birds of Bhutan – Part IV, I will share pictures of all the lovely birds of Bhutan that we encountered along the way.

We were in search of the Great Hornbills, one of the most iconic Birds of Bhutan. Although we did not spot them, we did see the Rufous-necked Hornbills at the same spot where we had seen them last season. It was evident that this was their home, and one can visit this place at any time to see these magnificent Birds of Bhutan. In our continued quest for the Birds of Bhutan, we took a different route after entering the Zemgang district to reach Tingtibi.

To our surprise, we encountered one of the prettiest Birds of Bhutan—yes, I am talking about the Silver-eared Mesia. It became the showstopper of the day: the star attraction, the apple of the eye. 🙂 Among all the Birds of Bhutan we had seen so far on this trip, this little bird truly stood out. It patiently posed for us on an open perch, giving us some amazing opportunities to capture the moment with our cameras.

With a new set of Birds of Bhutan captured in our cameras, we retired to our lovely stay beside the river. As darkness began to set in, there was a sudden visitor beside the road, hurriedly trying to hide itself. It was a furry Himalayan Marten—a wonderful bonus sighting during our journey in search of the Birds of Bhutan. I managed to get a quick picture of this shy creature, ending the day on a happy note.
