Like an annual rite, we were again on our way to Bhigwan Birding this year. With our trusted birding guide Datta Kundre and our list of target birds, we set forth for the Bhigwan Bird Sanctuary. ‘Footlooseinme’ will take you to the Bhigwan Birding trip through this pictorial post. Like the saying, “Early bird catches the worm”, we believe early beginners catch the birds. I mean, capture the birds. Ah! Capture them through the lens. 😀 We started very early from Bhigwan city. The previous evening, we drove from Pune and stayed in a hotel beside the highway. At the wee hours of dawn, we began our Bhigwan Birding tour.
On our trip last year, we went to the Kadbanwadi Zone for birding. This year, we explored the Shirsuphal Zone. We spent the morning looking for raptors in the area.
We spent the afternoon boating from the Kumbhargaon boating point. Although the afternoon is not considered a good time for birding, we were still able to see our target birds here. Water birds seem to be much more considerate of the visitors. Enduring the intense heat of the scorching Sun, we braved the two-hour boating, capturing the waders.
Finally, it was time for the Mottled Wood-owl. We went to another location to see the Bonelli’s Eagle. It had a nest on a very high branch of an Eucalyptus tree. With the approaching dusk, we were at the owl’s place. We saw the owl at once, but the Large-billed Crows were bothering them. The large, magnificent Mottled Wood-owl couple seemed so helpless in front of the Crow menace.
Datta Kundre gave us yet another remarkable Bhigwan Birding experience. Wasting no more words, let’s start the Bhigwan Birding. 😀
